Women Leading in Tech: Crystal Tolbert

In the lead-up to the 2026 Summit for Women in Tech, we’re sharing Women Leading in Tech Executive Spotlights to celebrate the achievements of female tech leaders across our state.

We’re proud to feature Crystal Tolbert, who leads Financial Solutions Technology Delivery at Brighthouse Financial, overseeing technology strategy, transformation, and teams supporting critical finance and actuarial functions.

More About Crystal

Crystal Tolbert serves as Head of Financial Solutions Technology Delivery for Brighthouse Financial, leading strategy, delivery, and ongoing evolution of technology solutions that support critical finance and actuarial business functions. She oversees a diverse organization of technology leaders, analysts, and engineers responsible for enabling enterprise platforms, driving large-scale business transformations, and delivering innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency, financial stewardship, and customer outcomes

Biggest Influences

My childhood pastor had a profound influence on my development as a leader. From an early age, I was part of an environment that encouraged curiosity, celebrated asking “why,” and reinforced the importance of forming and expressing your own opinions. Learning to think independently, speak confidently, and challenge assumptions gave me skills that have served me throughout my career. Looking back, I attribute much of my success to the foundation of leadership, confidence, and critical thinking that was instilled in me during those formative years.

If you swap roles with another woman in tech, who would it be?

I am and forever will be infatuated with space. I would switch with Christina Koch, and travel around the moon! Although, I currently struggle to get on an airplane- so I may have some hurdles to overcome.

How is Brighthouse Financial supporting women in the tech workforce?

The Technology leadership team at Brighthouse Financial is a great example of how organizations can actively support the growth of women in technology. Women are well represented across our technology organization, and just as importantly, we are committed to investing in the next generation of technology leaders through mentorship, development opportunities, and hands-on experiences that help them grow their careers

Greatest Professional Success + Accomplishment

Serving as a role model and source of encouragement for other working moms is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. Being pulled in many different directions every day is challenging, and there are certainly times when I don't get everything right, but I find great fulfillment when another mom asks me for advice on how to navigate it all. There is no perfect formula, but by supporting one another and sharing our experiences, we can thrive both personally and professionally. We want to do it all, and while it isn't always easy, I truly believe we can.

Summit for Women in Tech Highlights

I have been involved with this event for many years and have had the privilege of experiencing it from many different perspectives. I love being an attendee, learning from and being inspired by the incredible women who share their stories, experiences, and insights. I also enjoy contributing behind the scenes, helping to plan and identify new ways to ensure the event continues to grow and provide meaningful experiences for future participants. Seeing women connect, learn, and support one another is what makes this event so special, and I am proud to play a small part in its continued success.

Favorite Way to Spend a Day Of

When I'm not leading technology teams, my favorite days are the ones spent making memories with my family. Whether I'm cheering from the sidelines at a baseball game, relaxing by the pool, watching my daughter as a gymnast. or baking in my kitchen, those moments are what matter most to me.
