Women Leading in Tech: Amy Greene

In the lead-up to the Summit for Women in Tech, we're sharing Women Leading in Tech Executive Spotlights across our blog, social media channels, and newsletters. These spotlights are designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of female tech leaders from our state, providing them with a platform to share their stories and insights. Stay tuned to meet the trailblazers who are shaping the future of technology.

We’re proud to feature Amy Greene, whose career journey proves that technology is as much about people as it is about code.

From a Short Contract to a Decade in Tech

Amy Greene’s path to technology began with a short-term contract to help with Blue Cross NC’s new technology conference at the time. Coming from a background in marketing, events, and communications, it was a pleasant surprise when working with Blue Cross NC in the technology industry felt like home.

“When offered a full-time position, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve learned that the best thing you can do is shape your role around your strengths—even if it doesn’t fit neatly inside a box.”

She's now celebrating her 10th year in technology at Blue Cross NC and the 11th anniversary of the Innovation Summit. Amy leads communications, change management, and culture strategy for the IT division. She also champions corporate social responsibility and drives talent development, recruitment, and retention to help both people and the organization thrive.

Creating Spaces for Others to Succeed

If Amy had to sum up her proudest professional accomplishment, it would be this:

“Creating spaces where people feel empowered to connect, share ideas, and unlock opportunities that elevate their careers and their lives.”

She has also been deeply involved in growing and supporting women in technology at Blue Cross NC. Through employee resource groups like TechNOW (Technology Network of Women) and programs like Tech-IT-Out, women gain access to mentorship, leadership, and skills development. The company also recruits from the community and partners with colleges, universities, and organizations like Road to Hire to provide underrepresented talent with pathways into meaningful tech careers.

Serving Women in Tech Statewide

Amy plays a key role in shaping the NC TECH Summit for Women in Tech as a member of the host committee. For her, the event’s power lies in the community it creates.

“Being in a room with women who understand the unique challenges we face, not just in our careers, but in life is inspiring. Learning from each other’s successes and setbacks helps us grow stronger and show up as our best selves.”

Blue Cross NC has proudly served as the presenting sponsor of the Summit from the beginning, recognizing the importance of spaces where women in tech can connect, share experiences, and gain the tools to advance.

The Leader She’d Swap Roles With

If given the chance, Amy would spend a week in the shoes of Jacinda Ardern, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand. She admires Ardern’s ability to lead with empathy, communicate with clarity, and make decisive choices in challenging times. She believes that experiencing leadership on a global stage like hers would offer lessons in uniting people, influencing change, and making an impact that reaches beyond your immediate circle.

Books, Balance, and a Quote to Live By

Amy recommends Radical Candor by Kim Scott for anyone looking to build stronger relationships. “Direct, honest conversations—delivered with empathy—lead to better collaboration and better outcomes,” she says.

When she’s not working, Amy enjoys fun game nights with family and friends, complete with board games, Texas Hold ’em, trivia, or JackboxTV. And her favorite quote, from Wayne Dyer, captures her outlook:

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Amy Greene’s story is proof that careers in technology don’t have to be linear and that everyone belongs in tech. By helping to build spaces for others to thrive and leading with empathy, she’s contributing to a more connected, inclusive future for women in tech.
