Women Leading in Tech: Rachini Moosavi

In the lead-up to the Summit for Women in Tech, we're sharing Women Leading in Tech Executive Spotlights across our blog, social media channels, and newsletters. These spotlights are designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of female tech leaders from our state, providing them with a platform to share their stories and insights. Stay tuned to meet the trailblazers who are shaping the future of technology!

Provide a brief description of your current role:

As Chief Analytics Officer at UNC Health, I lead the data and analytics enablement strategy for the health system. Part of my work focuses on artificial intelligence as it becomes embedded in an array of clinical, financial, and operational use cases.

Who and/or what influenced you most in pursuing a career in technology?:

Various mentors and role models along the way in my career. I had to make a choice after 10 years in consulting and operational roles to stay the course or choose positions that would allow me to more fully invest in my passion for data & analytics. Making that career change helped launch my career in technology.

If you could describe your greatest professional success/accomplishment in just one sentence, what would you say?:

Aiding our clinicians and leaders throughout the pandemic with timely, practical, intentional, and necessary insights that allowed our clinical and operational teams to manage through the chaos.

If you could switch roles with one other person for a week, who would choose and why?:

Michelle Obama- she's smart, talented, and persistent in her pursuit of change. She's a real person and isn't afraid to show or say it. She's a force of nature.

What are some things that your company or organization is doing to grow and support women in the tech workforce?:

This year we sponsored the Her Spark Summer Summit for 13-19 year old girls to learn about careers and skills in STEM. We have multiple ERGs that promote women and diverse leaders, for which many of our technology leaders are engaged and help to drive change. We helped design the Healthcare Data & Analytics Association mentorship program. We're engaged with the CHIME Coffee and Conversations for Women in Tech.

NC TECH hosts an annual Summit for Women in Tech gathering women from all parts of the state and in all stages of their careers. How are you involved? What are your favorite aspects of this event? Why is an event like this important for women to attend?:

This year, I am presenting on a Motivational Moment. Every time I get to sit at a table with various women leaders (especially in technology), I walk away feeling more supported and stronger. I want to pay that forward. We all learn and grow by supporting each other-- talking through our challenges, celebrating successes, and being whole people.

What book(s) would you recommend as a must-read and why?:

The Culture Code- learning to create a culture of belonging.

Lean In- rethinking your role as a working woman; boost your confidence, and acknowledge how we've held ourselves back.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?:

Spending time with my husband and 3 kids-- eating out, traveling. Reading nonsense books that allow me to escape from reality. Working out to burn off energy and invest in myself.

What is your favorite quote?:

"Have courage and be kind." - Quote from Cinderella

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." - Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
