Women Leading in Tech: Bonnie Phillips

In the lead-up to the Summit for Women in Tech, we're sharing Women Leading in Tech Executive Spotlights across our blog, social media channels, and newsletters. These spotlights are designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of female tech leaders from our state, providing them with a platform to share their stories and insights. Stay tuned to meet the trailblazers who are shaping the future of technology!

Provide a brief description of your current role:

Ensures the creation of healthcare value from data and analytics across the organization by aligning strategy and execution to business priorities. Accountable for the data and analytics vision, talent, best practices, insights, platforms, governance and products that enable confident action to make healthcare better for all.

Who and/or what influenced you most in pursuing a career in technology?:

While studying biostatistics I was able to work with researchers developing interventions for pediatric diseases including rotavirus, asthma, and nutrition. I caught the bug early for making a difference in healthcare, but also saw how important data and technology was in this equation. As I grew my career from academia into healthcare delivery and insurance I realized how important tech-driven scale is to advancing best practices and reaching more people.

If you could describe your greatest professional success/accomplishment in just one sentence, what would you say?:

I feel most accomplished when I see people I coached grow into their full potential.

If you could switch roles with one other person for a week, who would choose and why?:

At this point in time, I would switch roles with Kamala Harris to experience what it's like to influence the world and be on the precipice of being the country's first woman president!

What are some things that your company or organization is doing to grow and support women in the tech workforce?:

We have ERGs in place that are very active. We implemented hiring practices on my team that ensure we have diverse candidates and panels. We also have a robust learning and development program.

NC TECH hosts an annual Summit for Women in Tech gathering women from all parts of the state and in all stages of their careers. How are you involved? What are your favorite aspects of this event? Why is an event like this important for women to attend?:

I am a member of the Host Committee and executive sponsor within my company. I love that this event gives voice to the unique perspectives and needs of women in technology roles, giving them helpful tools to navigate their careers as well as creating opportunities for networking. This event reinforces the power of our collective voice and learnings to continue to advance women in technology.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?:

I love gardening, hiking and generally being outdoors with my family and dog.
