Women Leading in Tech: Anne Hungate
In the lead-up to the Summit for Women in Tech, we're sharing Women Leading in Tech Executive Spotlights across our blog, social media channels, and newsletters. These spotlights are designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of female tech leaders from our state, providing them with a platform to share their stories and insights. Stay tuned to meet the trailblazers who are shaping the future of technology!
Provide a brief description of your current role:
Bringing to market an ecosystem that empowers female talent through a comprehensive professional development program and a network of support. As founder and CEO of QuantumBloom, I refine the product, build the pipeline of customers, and represent the brand in all my actions.
Who and/or what influenced you most in pursuing a career in technology?:
My parents bought me a Commodore Vic 20 for my 12th birthday. I loved it. I taught myself to code by focusing on computer games. When I was trying to find a way to pay for college, my mother encouraged me to be an exterior house painter -- that is when I learned that women can thrive in historically male professions, without ever having to sacrifice their authentic self. So, a combination of loving technology and thriving as an outlier inspired me to create spaces for more women to come and join me.
If you could describe your greatest professional success/accomplishment in just one sentence, what would you say?:
It has yet to come! As a learner and a trailblazer, I have made resilience a habit.
If you could switch roles with one other woman for a week, who would choose and why?:
Melinda French Gates... I want her perspective on how much impact we can have when we create safety and equity for women. I could take that learning and that lens back to my own work with a greater understanding of where to focus.
What are some things that your company or organization is doing to grow and support women in the tech workforce?:
QuantumBloom is dedicated to helping organizations attract, retain, and advance young women. We see early career as the pivotal point for helping women feel connected and we help both the women and their employers build that bond.
NC TECH hosts an annual Summit for Women in Tech gathering women from all parts of the state and in all stages of their careers. How are you involved? What are your favorite aspects of this event? Why is an event like this important for women to attend?:
I have shared ideas and explored with fellow committee members how we can push the envelope with stronger engagement, more dialog, and organic networking. I have reached into my network to find connections of connections who are high impact speakers and down to earth practitioners.
What book(s) would you recommend as a must-read and why?:
Just read Kara Swisher's "Burn Book" and chapter 10 is still sitting with me. I also read Robert Sapolsky's book "Behave" last month and some of the key concepts have expanded my perspective.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?:
I am a homebody! I love to be at home with my family and my dogs. Yoga and tennis are also favorites. My husband has a travel bug, so I go along happily (he does the planning, I bring a good attitude), but my favorite day off is hanging at the house with my peeps.
What is your favorite quote?:
“If silence seems to give approval, then remaining silent is cowardly.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
