Talent Event: Diversity + Inclusion

Diversity + Inclusion: Can neurodiversity in the workplace give you a competitive edge?

Join NC TECH and the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) to learn about a new regional initiative aimed at developing a pipeline for a neurodiverse workforce.

North Carolina was selected to participate in the National Governor's Association Policy Academy to Expand Work-Based Learning in STEM Careers to young adults. As part of this initiative, we have launched LINC-IT, (Linking Inclusion in Information Technology), a work-based learning pilot for young adults on the autism spectrum in information technology. We would like to build on this program by continuing the support and curriculum in work skills but adding technical skills that will result in an industry recognized credential with a goal of placing these young people in internships or apprenticeships to eventually result in employment.

Partners include the DHHS Division of Vocational Rehab, Alliance Behavioral Healthcare, the Capitol Area Workforce Development Board, and the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities for the funding of job coaching and intern stipends. Wake Tech will be providing technical training and the UNC TEACCH Autism program will provide job coaching and support services to the interns. We need employers to give these young adults a chance and host them at their sites for 6-8 weeks.
